High Piled Storage Permit

This permit applies to the use of a building or portion thereof as high-piled storage area exceeding 500 square feet of commodities classified as I-IV above a height of 12 feet and High Hazard Commodities above 6 feet.

For this permit, you will need the following materials ready for your application to be complete:

1. Prevention Plan Drawings (Site plan) that are a minimum size of 11x17 unless all information can be legibly shown on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet that show the following:

  • Business name and address.
  • All HPCS areas designated by unique numbers.
  • Commodity classification shown for each array.
  • Dimensions of each storage array. These measurements are as reported on the OP-108 array detail. Provide the length & width of the storage system type used (physical rack measurements) and provide the height of the highest commodity stored for each individual array.

  • All aisle widths between storage arrays, between arrays and walls, and aisles surrounding solid piles.
  • Show all exterior access doors to all HPCS areas.
  • Location of valves controlling the water supply of ceiling and in-rack sprinklers.

2. Completed OPS-108 Form for each array.

3. Provide a document from a registered Design Professional, ICC Special Inspector, or Engineer, stating that all anchoring, structural elements, and attachments to the building are structurally sound for the loads and within design perimeters for the racking system.

Application

The City of Boise has recently launched a new online licensing system that allows you to apply for your fire operational permit online. First time users of this system will be required to set up an account.

    • Review and accept the online disclaimer and complete the application.
    • In your application you will have the capability to request an inspection date and time. Note that the Fire Department will contact you directly to confirm your inspection time.
