UPDATE: The fire on the 4700 block of S. Cole Rd. was caused by fireworks.
July 4 was a busy time for the Boise Fire Department, we responded to numerous fire calls and several calls on the Boise River.
On the 3rd of July, Boise Fire responded to five fire incidents, three caused by fireworks and two with undetermined causes. On the 4th of July, Boise Fire responded to 13 fires, five caused by fireworks, three with undetermined causes, and five not caused by fireworks. On the 5th of July, Boise Fire responded to three fires, two caused by fireworks and one with undetermined causes. There are still more reports coming in after a busy night, and these number may increase. Last year over the 4th of July holiday, we responded to nine fires, four caused by fireworks and five with unknown causes.
One fire that is still under investigation, was at a home on the 4700 block of S. Cole Rd. When the first engine arrived there was smoke showing from the attic. Three engines and a truck responded to the fire. It appears that the fire started on the exterior of the home, extending to the attic. There was extensive fire damage to the attic area, with smoke damage throughout the home. The Burn Out Fund assisted those that were displace. One occupant who received minor burns to the arm was treated on scene. There were no other injuries.
In addition, Boise Fire Dive Team members were on the Boise River from about 11:00 a.m. until approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 4. In that time, they carried out 9 rescues, numerous assists, and also removed a number of tree snags and strainers that were causing problems.
