Fire Ops 101 (1)

The Professional Firefighters of Idaho, along with the Boise, Eagle and Meridian Fire Departments and their respective local unions are hosting FIRE OPS 101, a program for elected and appointed officials. This daylong program will include hands-on fire-fighting and rescue operations under controlled supervision of professional firefighters. Participants will learn exactly how challenging it is to keep our communities safe. FIRE OPS 101 is Saturday, May 19.

This workshop will demonstrate many aspects of fire and emergency medical service operation. Participants will have the opportunity to face live fire conditions, truck company functions, search and rescue, vehicle extrication and emergency medical scenarios. Each participant will learn how to use a self-contained breathing apparatus, essential to breathing in heavy smoke.  Participants will learn how to battle live fire and be given instruction on how to respond to unanticipated events of fire behavior, such as flashover.

FIRE Ops 101 hands on scenarios will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Boise Fire Training Center, at 12142 West Joplin Road, and end at 4:45 p.m. Media outlets are invited to attend FIRE OPS 101 between 10:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
